Elizabeth A. Murphy


Elizabeth Murphy is an associate in the firm’s Banking Department. Ms. Murphy handles regulatory, compliance, corporate and transactional matters for financial institutions on a wide range of issues. Ms. Murphy deals with state and federal regulatory agencies, such as the New York State Department of Financial Services, the New York State Office of the Comptroller, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the National Credit Union Administration, on a frequent basis. She frequently advises financial institutions on bank operations, reviewing subpoenas, restraining notices, powers of attorney and trust agreements. Ms. Murphy also represents landlords and tenants in commercial leases.

Ms. Murphy has also advised financial institutions on the numerous changes made to federal mortgage regulations as a result of the passage of the Dodd-Frank Act, working with such institutions to meet the new origination and servicing requirements imposed by those regulations. She assisted in the preparation of the “CFPB Mortgage Rules Under the Dodd-Frank Act,” a volume of Bloomberg BNA’s Banking Portfolio Series. The 2015 portfolio provides a comprehensive overview of mortgage rules issued by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau under the Dodd-Frank Act.

During law school, Ms. Murphy served as Managing Editor of the Hofstra Law Review and was a member of the Hofstra Moot Court Board. Her Note, Courts Mistakenly Cross-Out Memorials: Why the Establishment Clause is Not Violated by Roadside Crosses, was published in Volume 39 of the Hofstra Law Review. 

Past Experience

While in law school, Ms. Murphy worked for a Long Island firm specializing in personal injury claims. Ms. Murphy was also a competitor in the 9th Annual Willem C. Vis East International Commercial Arbitration Moot held in Hong Kong.
