Jil Mazer-Marino


Jil Mazer-Marino is a partner in the firm’s Bankruptcy and Business Reorganization and Corporate Finance law practice.  Jil practices in the area of bankruptcy and creditors’ rights and is a chapter 7 panel trustee for the Southern District of New York. Jil has extensive experience representing debtors in possession, creditors’ committees and secured and unsecured creditors in large and complex chapter 11 bankruptcy cases. Her clients include chapter 7 and chapter 11 trustees, and plan administrators in all aspects of bankruptcy case administration. Jil also represents banks, indenture trustees, factors and other lenders in connection with debt collection, debtor in possession financing, and out of court debt restructuring. Jil has substantial experience in prosecuting and defending preference and fraudulent conveyance claims.    

Jil is the former secretary and currently a member of the Committee on Bankruptcy and Corporate Reorganization of the City Bar.  She is the 2019 recipient of the New York Institute of Credit Women’s Division’s Executive of the Year award.  She lectures frequently on the development of the law related to Cannabis and the intersection between bankruptcy law and intellectual property.

Representative Experience

  • Chapter 7 trustee for Tavern on the Green
  • Chapter 7 trustee for the National Sports Museum
  • Represented a 60 store chain of retail craft stores and an 80 store chain of off-price retail stores as chapter 11 debtors in possession
  • As special counsel for the chapter 7 trustee of a national cable installation company, prosecuted, litigated and settled over 100 actions commenced to recover preferential transfers over $6 million
  • As counsel to the plan administrator for an international audio equipment manufacturer, prosecuted over 80 actions to recover preferential and fraudulent transfers
  • Represented the official committee of unsecured creditors of a biodiesel fuel manufacturer
  • Provided counsel to a wide variety of creditors including manufacturers, utilities, importers, labor unions and landlords, in some of today’s most significant chapter 11 cases, including General Motors, Chrysler, Blockbuster, and Delphi
