Assessments and Tax Certiorari

The primary source of revenues for most municipal clients is real property taxation. Preserving the integrity of the municipal tax roll is vital to both the municipality and all of its taxpayers, residential and commercial.

Cullen and Dykman has decades of experience representing our municipal clients in tax assessment matters, including small claims assessment review proceedings and review of State-promulgated equalization ratios and residential assessment ratios. We help develop "grievance day" strategies to allow our clients to resolve some claims without the need for litigation. We have assisted municipal clients in developing electronic grievance filing systems to streamline the processing of the hundreds of grievances which are filed each year. 

When negotiating tax certiorari cases that have been commenced, we make use of highly sophisticated electronic information databases to gather the most up-to-date valuation information possible. We are able to provide our clients with information and analysis that enables them to resolve cases in the manner most favorable to them, or to best defend their assessments at trial. We have also guided clients through the process of property assessment revaluations and becoming approved assessing units. 

We are active members in the Condemnation and Tax Certiorari Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association, and keep current with all developing areas of tax certiorari law.
