ENERGY AND UTILITIES

We meet the demand for powerful advice and supply innovative solutions.

For a number of Cullen and Dykman LLP’s electric, gas, water and telecommunication utility clients, the firm has provided decades of continuous representation on many different facets of the clients’ businesses. We are very proud of our representation of Brooklyn Union Gas, which began with the company’s formation in 1895 and has continued through Brooklyn Union’s corporate succession into KeySpan Corp. and then its acquisition by National Grid. These client relationships are not only of long duration, they are generally quite broad in the scope of services we provide. This scope is made possible by the abilities of firm attorneys in state and federal regulatory matters and in other practice areas such as corporate, contracts and bankruptcy. This enables the firm to assemble broadly-skilled teams to meet a particular client’s needs in multiple areas of the law. Beyond regulatory law, examples of the firm’s services to its energy and utility clients include the formulation and negotiation of business structures and relationships and representation in financing transactions and in structuring and negotiating arrangements for the supply, transmission and management of various energy and utility services and commodities. We also assist these clients in zoning, land-use, eminent domain and other real property matters affecting electric and natural gas production, transmission and distribution facilities, and we provide project-specific and strategic advice on tax and related issues, including income, franchise, gross receipts, sales, property and utility taxation, and structuring to minimize these taxes.
